Dia de Muertos Festival

The centerpiece of our celebration is the traditional altar dedicated to offerings for the departed. Witness the heartfelt gestures of gifts and prayers as we pay homage to those who have left us.

The origin of this beautiful celebration comes from a neighbor in our community, the talented artist Carlos Duran, who brought the essence of Día de los Muertos to the PNA. We are proud to embrace and support his culture and traditions, as they align perfectly with our values of inclusivity and the celebration of diversity.

Throughout the event, you’ll be captivated by mesmerizing performances, the enchanting use of language, and delectable food and drink that exemplify the rich Mexican heritage. Engage in craft activities and dance to the rhythmic beats that fill the air, fostering an atmosphere of togetherness and shared experiences.

1:00 PM: Opening ceremony and procession through the neighborhood with CeAtl Tonali

2:00 PM: Baile Folklore Colibri

2:30 PM: Altar dedication with Raul Sanchez

3:00 PM: Groupo Folklorico

3:30 PM: Jump on Languages student performance

1-4 PM: Tacos, tamales, churros, horchata and more available for purchase from neighborhood restaurant Abuelita’s Kitchen

1-4 PM: Mexican hot chocolate and pan de muerto available for purchase

1-4 PM: Free crafts – make paper flowers, beaded bracelets and temporary face tattoos.

Bring photos and offerings for the community altar, built by the wonderful poet and community member Raul Sanchez. Altar will be up in the Phinney Center lobby from October 23 through November 6
