About Us:-

There are many companies to choose from while searching for the right whale watching tour. Since 1992, we, Shane and Jennifer Aggergaard (company founders), have been committed to offering our passengers much more—striving to exceed our guests’ expectations each and every day. Island Adventures offers the best boat, the best location, guaranteed whale sightings, and lots of extras—but it is our highly qualified staff that really separates us from the rest. Our friendly and knowledgeable team is eager to provide outstanding service from start to finish. Onboard, we’ll entertain and educate you throughout the tour in hopes that you take away magical memories and a renewed respect for nature. Many, many lives have been touched by witnessing whales in the wild. We feel privileged to be able to provide this unique and wonderful opportunity.

Island Adventures Whale Watching is based out of Anacortes, Washington, only 90 minutes north of Seattle and 90 minutes south of Vancouver, BC. Anacortes is located on the mainland and is known as the “Home Port” to the San Juan Islands, providing the perfect departure point for our Orca Whale Watching & Wildlife Cruises.

There’s no need to hassle with summertime ferry schedules, delays, inconvenient parking, or added expense; you can drive directly to us. Departing from Anacortes the water is generally calm and we’re in prime whale spotting waters just ten minutes from the breakwater!

Island Adventures is an owner-operated whale watching company founded by Shane and Jennifer Aggergaard in 1996. Shane has spent over 1000 days with the whales that ply the waters of northwest Washington. He is an accomplished ocean captain who has operated vessels for hire from 14 feet to 280 tons, from New York to Florida and Alaska to Baja Mexico, but calls Anacortes and the San Juan Islands home. He has recently held two terms as president and two terms as vice president of the Whale Watch Operator’s Association Northwest and is dedicated to educating the public about the southern resident Orcas.

Shane has performed seminars on Orca whales and San Juan wildlife for the last 15 years for schools, clubs, and venues like the Seattle Boat Show. Shane and Jennifer were also nominated for the Small Business Owner of the Year award in Skagit County for 2003 and for a second time in May of 2005. Shane has held a four year term as a board member for the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and takes great pride in his home town of Anacortes.

Jennifer has her degree in marine biology and directs Island Adventure’s Orca travel pattern research and education programs. She is also Vice President/Bookkeeper of Island Adventures Inc. and the mother of Andrew and Amy Aggergaard. Together, with your whale watching crew, it is their goal to create an exciting and educational whale watching program that everyone can afford.

This is our second whale watching within 10 days... we went to the one in cape cod too this is the most professional well organized well informed whale watching we went to. The crew was not just taking a boat out to show you whales they showed us three kinds of whales with sea lions, puffins, harbor seals and all flaura of birds. It was a one of a kind experience all of us enjoyed. The kids wanted to go again today. Our party of four got late they waited for us and did not make us feel bad about it. The food was good the beer on tap we could not have asked for more. We highly recommend this to friends and all.

Our party of five had a wonderful time. The ship is very well maintained and spacious. Our trip was about 20 people short of full capacity however there was plenty of room. The crew was informative and friendly. We saw plenty of whales. Orcas and Humpbacks on our tour. I would recommend this trip to anyone visiting the area and I plan to go again in the future.

What a Great Experience! Island Adventures is top notch. The entire staff: Captain Scott, Naturalists Sam & Claire, and galley staff Eric & Naomi worked so well together to make sure everyone was well taken care of. Sam, Claire and Scott shared the air time effectively to keep us very engaged in our quest to discover all of the nature available to us in the Salish Sea that day. The boat is state-of-the-art and had so many possibilities available to us. My friend and I explored every option but could see that it has something for everyone. If you get easily chilled, there is ample indoor heated space, if you like outside but want to be out of the wind there are multiple options there too. Then there stadium seating on the bow making it easy to be front and center for the nature sightings outside. The boat travels very fast and we were able to go into Canadian waters that day, a definite plus to increase our chances to see the jaw dropping whales and/or orcas in action! I can’t imagine a better whale watching trip. Fantastic!

You won’t even realize you’ve been on a boat for 5 hours! We had beautiful weather so being outside was great (we still needed jackets!) but if you need a break, there’s great indoor space for food and drinks. Explore all the levels, some points have great views and others are out of the wind. Scott, Eric and Tyson were awesome and made it fun and informative. We saw humpbacks, orcas and a million bald eagles! Plus other wildlife. The dotted line was the best though, keep your eyes out. Worth every bit of our time.

Oh my gosh! This was an epic weekend Adventure we took. We got on a catamaran and went all through the sounds up into Canada okay, we got to see so many of the cool islands that are out there that normally know nothing about! We did only see a couple of a pod of orcas. And none of them really breach they just came up to the top and spy looked. But all the same it was still beautiful fun adventure. I would do it again in a heartbeat
