History:
Founded in 1987, Renton Civic Theatre began its existence as a professional performing arts theater from a boarded up old movie house. The original founders of Renton Civic recognized the value of the 1920s movie palace. The owner of the building consented to a lease, and the building was painted, recarpeted, and rewired for theatrical lighting. Funds were raised from local businesses and private individuals. The first show was "Yo!," and the first musical production was "Grease," which opened on February 25, 1987.

Renton Civic Theatre was off and running, showing a wide variety of productions ranging from mainstream musicals and popular shows to unusual off-beat productions. For over 20 years Renton Civic Theatre has been one of the premier venues for quality theater in the Greater Puget Sound region. We feature classical musicals, comedies, and dramas that are family-friendly.

In the summer of 1991, Renton Civic Theatre constructed an orchestra pit, with the aid of the Seattle Foundation and the Boeing Company. The first major production to use the pit was "The Music Man," which played to sold out houses. In the fall of 1993, with the help of the Boeing Company and a successful "Buy the Seats" campaign, Renton Civic Theatre purchased the building.

The theater has had extensive renovations with the restoration of the art deco lobby, and the construction of a third restroom adjacent to the concession area. These changes were accomplished with grants from the King County Arts Commission, Renton Rotary, and the City of Renton. Renton Civic Theatre has regularly offered family friendly productions, and generously donates tickets to non-profit fundraisers.

We want to reach all generations. You, as patrons, are the life blood that flows through Renton Civic Theatre's veins. Without your support, we would die on the vine. Therefore, we are committed to making your experience here both memorable and entertaining. Please contact us anytime to send praises or offer suggestions. Our audiences have continued to demonstrate their support not only by buying season tickets, but by making tax deductible donations and simply by bringing friends who "must see our current show!"

We are located in the heart of downtown Renton, but have patrons visit us from all over the greater Puget Sound Region. Located at 507 South Third Street, we are just minutes from Seattle and easy to find. We'd love to see you at our productions.
